The wide stripes in design are so impactful because of just that - their width.  I think that regardless of the color combinations (which the most popular seems to be your good old black and white due to the high contrast) or the degree the angles meet, the consistency of size forces a pattern visually that makes an impression.  The volume could be controlled by the color combination choices.  The plain vanilla vertical ones are just as bold as creating patterns with the repeat (zig zags, slants, concentric boxes).  The way I see it, a stripe is a stripe is a stripe and stripes are classic.

This kind of weather - well, I guess I mean hot and then freezing! - makes me want to grab my computer and just pin away by the fire with a cozy blanket and mt little dog, Louis.
January was a wash for me.  After the initial shock I was in from the absolute craziness of Christmas,  my husband and I closed on a new house!  Shortly after that I was bed bound for almost two weeks with what I believe was the flu - uuuggghh.  And on top of all of it, Santa brought me a new Mac and so I have been spending the past month having a love/hate relationship with not only the mac, but the man who gave me the wonderful gift!!!!  In long, please forgive my absence the past few weeks and I am back to work now.  Going to head over towards the fire now...

So happy reading!...

Zee Moody Fall...

Source Unknown

The Fall has so many aesthetically moody images that are magical when paired with the dropping temperatures outside!  I am missing my fall, but I am there in spirit!  I am happy as a lark in my warm temperatures in Asia - it is never too chilly for me!

Hiatus over - I'm back!  Some mind blowing before and afters will be headed your way soon!

Happy weekend!!!!

Sofa Color Wheel...

I am about to be furnishing a place across the world from home that will be "temporary", but still needs to feel comfortable and like a home.  I am strongly considering doing some wild colored furniture that would be harder for me to do in a place I knew was permanent.  In the past I have usually erred on the side of practicality over whimsy, but the longer I am in the field the more I learn that just because you commit to a color that "you may grow tired of", you just as easily may become bored with straight up practicality.  The truth of the matter is that a sofa upholstery, although it can be quite an investment and a gut wrenching bomb (ie: the neon bandwagon!) something fun and different may also bring you very much happiness each day when you walk into your home and it catches your eye.  Hmmm...stay tuned!

Happy Weekend!...

Cross My Heart...

The cross is seen so much in design that often we do not even notice that we see it.  It is seen in floor graphics, iron work, wallpapers & textiles, mouldings, tile patterns, upholstery and hardware designs to just begin a list.  The intersection is a contrived look that is more intentional than the normal flow of nature, although we see this pattern in nature often, too.  Sometimes adding the graphic of a cross (ideally repetitive) gives the area just enough subtle detail to differentiate between coincidence and a honed in attention to detail.

Happy Monday!!!...
