Straight As An Arrow...

I have done several projects lately dealing with swimming pools & the process of a pool can be very overwhelming - especially if you have not done it before. There are choices you must make that are pretty much irreversible unless money is no object. The good news is that all pools usually turn out to be aesthetically pleasing - even the most unaesthetically pleasing ones - on a very hot day! One rule of thumb I try to stick with in all areas of my life is to simplify. Go back to square one and simplify. Do you want straight or rounded? Light or dark? Flush or raised? My favorite is a dark pool flush in the grass with a very simple shape. As with everything, the options are endless so straighten out as many details as you are able before beginning & take notes when visiting other pools around you. And remember the most important part - the lighting!

Chillin' Out...

If you live in Houston in the summer it is pretty much a no-brainer that you need to have one of these or know someone well who does so you may have access to your sanity. Each summer (actually it is technically and unbelievably not even summer yet) I am shocked by the intensity of the heat, yet I must have a selective memory because I am astounded every time it rolls in. And it rolls in with a vengeance, and mosquitoes and humidity to boot. We have already experienced record-breaking temperatures here and it is only the tip of the iceberg (haha!). I dream of being submerged in a pool (preferably with a chiller) day in and day out.

Hope everyone has a cool Monday!...

I always enjoy a nice swimming pool to cool off during the hot Texas summers. There are so many ways to work a good pool design into a yard. The ambiance that the reflection of the water adds is both soothing and exciting. And just the thought of cooling off in a perfectly chilly pool. Ahhh!

I hope everyone had a happy weekend...
