Ahhhhhhh! The beginning of summer! What a wonderful weekend. The idea of it just relieves us of so much stress and hustle that we experience the other 9 months of the year. A slower (albeit hotter!) relaxed time to enjoy life at the pace we should all year. I have so many incredible memories of summer as a little girl. Texas is so darn hot in the summer that I usually think of some sort of body of water, loose clothes, bare feet and "no school" nights! Fun and happy times!

Here's to making wonderful summer memories this year!...

Open shelves are such a fun way to design a kitchen IF (and that is a big if) you have the discipline to keep everything somewhat in order. Otherwise you, your family and your guests could be viewing a huge natural disaster scene! Open shelving is not as functional as cabinets for obvious reasons, but if you have a good amount of matching dinnerware (not necessarily same patterns, but same concept) then I strongly suggest taking some organizational courses and going for it!

I am looking forward to a relaxing weekend before heading off to the mountains for a work trip. I hope everyone enjoys theirs...

Layer Cake...

I have always been a fan of rug layering. Usually it is a luxury, but I think a small rug on top of a larger area rug or on top of wall-to-wall carpet is such a fun extra detail that is certainly able to add a punch or even enlarge a space visually. My favorite is layering on top of seagrass. Layering does not come as naturally for me on other rugs, but that is not to say it is not accomplished. It just takes a little more playing around!

Happy weekend to everyone!
