Isn't it amazing how a detail as small as a tape trim is able to transform a otherwise plain, simple piece of upholstered furniture into a chic, tailored piece? This is one of the reasons I so love design. The ability to catapult something into another category by adding the slightest improvement. Genius! For those of you who try this out be careful of going too light on the tape if you use it on the seat or in a high traffic area. Your initial love could become your biggest eyesore!
Upholstery details are so much fun! I have always had a thing for tufting. Visually it is just pleasing to the eye. There are several different ways to have a piece of furniture tufted, giving the client endless options. The buttons can be covered in the same fabric as the furniture, they can be covered in a contrasting fabric to give the piece a little more detail, or there can be ties made. I have a wonderful upholsterer who offers me suggestions that I often would not come up with on my own. I love the fact that if I am stumped I always know that I can work with him to come up with something fab! Thank you Brian!!!
Obviously the Greek key pattern is a timeless classic. It is a great balancing tool in design as borders on rugs, draperies, pillows or chair banding. I also love the bold simplicity of an overall Greek key design used on pillows or straight-lined upholstery (assuming it would become a bit tricky on a rounded piece of upholstery - I have personally never been brave enough to try which I am sure my clients appreciate as it could be an expensive mistake!). That being said I would not mind a border rounding out my china. Pretty sure I would not mind the detail on my pillow shams, either...
The graphic chevron print is so fun and can have such a nice impact in a room. The pattern is used over and over in things you not even realize such as paver sidewalks, tile designs in bathrooms and kitchens and hardwood floors. The pattern can be very in your face as well as a subtle repetitive print that looks like a solid with a little more zing. The pattern can be consistent or random, which adds another edge. I would most likely stick with the consistent pattern on wallpaper or a rug since I am such a symmetry freak, but the random pattern could be fun on pillows or maybe upholstered furniture.
I hope everyone is enjoying the same incredible Spring weather we are having in Texas! Happy Wednesday!...
