The wide stripes in design are so impactful because of just that - their width.  I think that regardless of the color combinations (which the most popular seems to be your good old black and white due to the high contrast) or the degree the angles meet, the consistency of size forces a pattern visually that makes an impression.  The volume could be controlled by the color combination choices.  The plain vanilla vertical ones are just as bold as creating patterns with the repeat (zig zags, slants, concentric boxes).  The way I see it, a stripe is a stripe is a stripe and stripes are classic.

The vanity table! So many of my clients opt to omit the vanity area and I strongly urge that clients do NOT skip on this area. It is a little haven that if someone does not sit down it is still functional as a completely girly, vain, beautiful storage area! I stand to apply my make-up, but I use my stool every day to put on boots or tie my shoes or more realistically to catch discarded outfits!

Happy Monday! April showers bring May flowers!!!...

Bathroom design is always great fun for me because I am constantly trying to create retreats where the client enjoys getting ready in a beautiful, serene and still functional environment. Lately, a few of my projects have had the free standing tubs and I must say that if I were to design a bathroom for myself right now I would lean towards this type of tub. They can be super sleek and just as easily look quite traditional with a footed base. The view is dramatic to walk into a bathroom and see the tub design. Obviously the newer designs are takes on the classic claw foot tubs, which I must say I have always loved in homes. I hear the plumbing is a booger to install, but thankfully I am able to leave that task to another professional!

Happy Monday!...

Hmmmmm....OK, personally I think the towel bars on the front of the vanities look quite sharp. Realistically, I know that if I arrived home from dinner & my skirt braised the towel hanging in front of the vanity I would consider the perfectly clean towel dirty. I am a germaphobe -what can I say? For me they would work if I were able to change into a clean nightgown before arraigning the towel, but how realistic is this? Hmmmmm again....What do you all think?

Happy happy Monday!!!!!...

I always have fun putting together vanities or bathroom counters because of all the fun little accessories. I am a candle junkie, I love fresh flowers and I am very big on the importance of lamp or sconce lighting. The above, I believe, makes for a visually enticing use of space. The soaps, the jewelry, the make-up, the mirrors - ahhhh, lovely! I unfortunately have all of my jewelry put away, but when I do see it I am always thrilled to see all the beautiful pieces I have collected over the years along with the different compartments that hold the keepsakes - each a different memory and meaning. Makes me happy. Oh, the little things...

Happy Monday to you all! Be sure to look at something that makes you happy today...
