It is that time of the year again and I am THRILLED about it! I think advent garlands are such a visually fun way to count the days down until Santa's much anticipated visit! I always loved counting the days until Christmas with a tiny sussie (surprise) as a little girl. There are so many more options available now and not only do they teach children to appreciate the days of the season, but they can decorate your home, as well. I am all about killing two birds with one stone - well, not really ;) I love the birdies!

Happy Christmas season to all!...

Oh Christmastime! I love it! I love the cheer, the clothes, fetching the mail, targeting the perfect gift, baking cookies and decorating my home. What a wonderful time of year! All of the parties and festivities can create a bit of stress due to the fact that there is barely time to remember your name during December, so planning an outfit usually falls at the bottom of the priority list. Going with your standard holiday colors (red, green, black, white, silver or gold) always works and if you are feeling a little crazy play off of those colors and go with hot pink instead of red or fluorescent green instead of a hunter green. Have fun with it and remember what the season is about. Most importantly spending time with the people around you - not what you have on - is what counts!

Happy Tuesday!...

Sorry for the post delay - I am just back from a magical fall New York City trip and my schedule has been delayed. It was well worth it!

Today I am featuring interior doors and the ability one has to achieve a dramatic impact by focusing on the detail(s) of interior doors. This could happen with a simple coat of paint in a bold or subtle color that ties into the scheme of the room, with some sort of upholstery such as a zebra skin or a leather with nail trim and even a different type of door altogether that will still act as a divider in a passage way, yet gives the impact that normally would need to be achieved through accessories or art. It is the perfect, bold way to make a statement with the space of a standard door making the impact in the height. So, you can either be safe (a.k.a. boring - but old faithful) and paint the interior doors the same color as all the woodwork throughout or if you are feeling a bit adventurous try one of the above examples. I say go against the grain and add the contrast! Fun stuff!

Happy weekend!...

I have FINALLY finished and launched my updated website and I am very excited! I have worked on it for much longer than originally anticipated and I feel as if a load has been lifted to finally have it out there in cyberspace :) That being said, this post is much more "toot your own horn" than is typically my style, but I have worked so hard on it that I feel like it is justified in this case. My main goal with my updated website was to show the variation in styles and projects because it is so very important to me to have my client's homes custom fitted to their particular lifestyle and taste. Hopefully I have accomplished my goal in my reader's eyes.

The final product could not have been accomplished without all the talented people who helped me and for them I am so grateful! All the interior photography was done by my close, very talented friend, Megan Thompson Lovoi - thank you! And I have to give a VERY loud shout out to Ketan Pavle, my extremely patient and talented website designer who is most likely still in shock at the amount of details that a human is capable of picking apart - thank you Ketan - you rock! Carol Junell took my portrait, and I specifically asked her if she could work some magic because the only picture I have ever taken and liked was a portrait she did my senior year in high school almost 20 years prior! Not to mention that Carol is a very well known photographer here in Houston and has produced many beautiful photos for many people over the years. Thank goodness for photo shop and lots of takes on this subject!

Please visit Laura S Mitchell Interior Design and let me know what you think.

Happy Monday!...
